
SMART BIN WITH SCREEN
Users

Pupils, junior and senior high school students:
Press “Group Log In” on the screen, input their class number with keyboard below or swipe their
student card to log in group account and follow the instructions on the screen to drop waste into
corresponding bin. After identifying by the machine, the results will be shown on screen and they can
check the class ranking list. In the end, the account will be logged out automatically for the next user.

University students and staff in schools:
Press “Individual Log In” on the screen and scan the QR code on the screen to log in with their
individual account. After that, following the instructions on the screen to drop the waste and then the
results will be shown. They can check their individual account and log out automatically.

All users:

Press “Start Dropping without Log in” on the screen to drop waste.
2. If users drop waste correctly, the green indicator with the right icon will light on under the screen.
Instead, the red indicator with the wrong icon will light on, which is consistent with the form of
traffic lights.
3. If they drop waste incorrectly, they can click the hyperlink to get more information about the
mistake.
4. If they meet problem, they can press the telephone icon for calling or emailing for help at any time.
5. After using, users can give us some feedback by choosing in the pull-down menu in the “Feedback”
section.
6. If the internet has problems, the screen will show that the “Error” page for users to try again or call
for help in time.
Electricity
solar power generation + press down the pedal to generate electricity+ inside accumulator

Solar Panels are set on the top of bins and it can collect solar power for generating electricity for the daily use of the bin.

Users have to press down the pedal to open the lid of the bin foe dropping and at the same time, it can generate electricity. The principle of it is equal to the use of hand flashlight. When people step on the pedal, the inner coil moves up and down to cut the magnetic induction line, which generates an induced current.

Accumulator: The electricity produced by the methods above can be collected in the accumulator inside for providing electricity for daily use of bin, especially in rainy days. This mode of operation can contribute to saving electricity.
AI system: Internal automatic classification
The dropping waste will be first put in the identify area and it will be identified by the metal detector, infrared sensor, image recognizer. After being identified, it will be dropped onto a conveyor belt and then into the right bin according to the results of identification. Next, the system will compare the results made by the system and the choice by the users for giving the results for the users. No matter whether the users choose the right bin, the waste will be dropped into the right bin automatically by machine.
As for the principle of the AI system in identify area, this is a machine learning system. In order to build this waste separation system with AI, a huge database is needed at first. It is necessary to label images with different types of waste to tell the computer that some information about them as the original data of the training model. After the model is trained, every time the user throws waste, the user's choice and waste information will be learned and marked to continuously improve the accuracy of waste separation. The waste that is not in the database will not be recognized. However, when encountering unrecognizable types of waste, it will be thrown into the unidentified waste bin which is hidden inside, and the system can remember this waste separation and uploads relevant information to the database for the identification next time.
GPS
The smart waste-separation bin is equipped with GPS system so that it can be found on the mobile phone for navigating.
Other technology
Infrared sensor for knowing whether the bins are full. If the bins are full, the cleaner will receive notifications on their mobile phone and clean them in time.
Limitations

It is expensive and requires support from multiple communities.

The amount of waste that can be identified at one time is limited, and it takes a long time to throw garbage, which may cause queuing.

There may be problems with the network, but we provide the “Help” page, and users can call for help at any time.

The waste bin in the teaching building uses solar power to generate limited power. It is recommended that the waste bin is placed in a place where the sun can get. The solar energy can still be collected and stored in a accumulator for use in a cloudy day with stepping power generation

Due to the limited initial database, the initial error rate may be high. But with the continuous use of the waste bin, the internal machine learning system will continue to improve.
